Checklist - eBusiness
Today's eBusiness can range from simple to complex. The minimum you need to get started with a web presence is a domain name, hosting service and at least one web page. This more comprehensive list offers lots of possibilities. Typically, you won't need or want everything in the list, but it's a good tool for discussion.
- Domain name (like www.mainjane.com)
- Hosting service (space to store the website files viewers see)
- Email addresses (like jane@mainjane.com)
- Website layout/style
- Text
- Photos
- Slideshows
- Illustrations
- Forms
- Map
- Calendar
- Animated gifs (little images that move)
- Video clips (like a window on a page showing a YouTube video)
- eNewsletter (viewers subscribe through your site)
- Blog (you want to write to your viewers often by posting to your blog)

- Accessibility requirements
- Browser compatibility requirements (we normally design for and test in the top three browsers, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer)
- Database (if you have lots of products or images to show)
- Shopping cart
- Domain name forwarding (if you have more than one domain name, but want all to point to one website)
- Tracking information to see info about your viewers
- Meta data (description and keywords for search engines)
- Search Engine Optimization (following certain guidelines to improve page placement when people search the internet)
- Google Adwords (budgeted program where you pay to raise your position in search hit results)
- Social Media (like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter)
